Optical Rotation

Optical Rotation is the property displayed by chiral substances of rotating the plane of polarisation of polarised light. Optical rotation is considered to be positive (+) for substances that rotate the plane of polarisation in a clockwise direction and negative (−) for substances rotating into the opposite direction.
